The Hamilton Police Department is pleased to announce the commencement of its sixth Citizens Police Academy. The Academy will run from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm for ten consecutive Tuesday's beginning on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 and concluding on Tuesday November 22, 2016.
The Citizen Police Academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operation and functions of the Hamilton Police Department, Communications Center and Fire Department. Classes will cover various topics such as Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Evidence Collection, Domestic Violence, Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Court Procedures, and Use of Force. Additionally participants will complete a 2 hour police ride along and also a tour of the Middleton Jail. The ride along will allow each student to observe Police Officers while on patrol. Courses will be taught by a Hamilton Police Officers, Police Supervisors, Hamilton Fire-Fighters and Emergency Dispatcher.
There is no charge to attend, however, you must be 18 years or older. The class is limited to 20 applicants. Applications may be picked up at the Hamilton Police Department, 265 Bay Road or at the Town Clerks office, 577 Bay Road. Applications can also be downloaded on the Hamilton Police website, www.Hamiltonma.gov. You may also request an application packet by contacting Sgt. Stephen Walsh or Sgt. Stephen Trepanier at 978-468-1212. The deadline for application submittal will be Wednesday August 30, 2016. Preference will be given to Hamilton residents.
