Citizen Police Academy
The Hamilton Police Department is pleased to announce that it will be offering a Citizen Police Academy beginning on Wednesday September 14, 2011. The academy will run for 10 weeks from 6:30 Pm to 9:00 Pm every Wednesday night until it concludes on November 16, 2011.
The Citizen Police Academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operation and function of the Hamilton Police Department. Classes will cover various topics such as Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Domestic Violence, Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Identity Theft, Cyber Crimes, Emergency Communication Center, Court Procedures, and Use of Force. Additionally participants will complete a police ride along. This will allow each student to observe Police Officers on patrol. Courses will be taught by a Hamilton Police Officers, Police Supervisors, and Dispatch personnel.
There is no charge to attend, however, you must be 18 years or older. The class is limited to 20 applicants. Applications may be picked up at the Hamilton Police Department, 265 Bay Road. You may also request an application packet by contacting Sgt. Stephen Trepanier or Sgt. Stephen Walsh at 978-468-1212. The deadline for application submittal will be Friday August 19, 2011. Preference will be given to Hamilton residents.
