Apply for an Appointed Term

Any resident of the Town of Hamilton may apply to join a Town Committee if there is a posted vacancy. To apply, complete the application, attach a letter of interest and a current résumé, and email documents to [email protected]. The Town Manager’s Office will forward your application packet to the chair of the board/committee of interest.

Appointed positions are approved by the Select Board through a formal vote, following a written recommendation from the Chair of the relevant committee to the Select Board for consideration.

Reappointments are not automatically issued. Committee chairs should confirm to the Town Manager’s Office, in writing, that the member with an expiring term wishes to be reappointed, prior to the term’s expiration.

Compliance and Legal Obligations

To ensure all appointments meet legal requirements and town processes, please note that positions are not official until they have been approved by the Select Board, ethics training has been completed, a required CORI background check is completed, and the Town Clerk has fulfilled all legal requirements, which ends with taking the Oath of Office for the appointed term.

Email Creation

Once the appointment is confirmed, a town email should be used for any committee/board communications. Email [email protected] to set up.

Resigning from an Appointed Term

A formal resignation letter should be sent to the chair of the board/committee. The chair will send a copy to the Town Manager’s Office and Town Clerk.
