The Historic District Commission/Historical Commission makes decisions with regard to approval of external changes made to properties within the Historic District, including but not limited to building additions, demolitions, signs visible from a public way, and any modifications.

Meetings

The Commission is scheduled to meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month. Meetings begin at 6:30 P.M. and are held via zoom. All plans shall be submitted to the Coordinator prior to the meeting to give the Commissioners time to review the plans. Before submitting plans, please review the Hamilton Historic District Handbook.

Handbook

September 22, 2020, the HHDC adopted the Hamilton Historic District Handbook. The Handbook was created as a tool for members and staff of the Commission, property owners within the district, and applicants before the Commission. The handbook contains information on the history of the Hamilton Historic District, the design review process and the design review guidelines used by the Commission when considering an application. IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Town of Hamilton has become aware of scam e-mails or letters sent to Applicants requesting payment for fraudulent invoices.

The Town does not charge for internal review of applications prior to the opening of a Public Hearing. Applicants will pay the application fee prior to the Public Hearing and for certain applications, the cost of postage for mailing the Public Hearing Notice. Once the Public Hearing has been opened during a public meeting, the applicant and the Board or Commission may agree that further review of the plans/site/application is necessary, and both parties will agree to the terms to hire a consultant.
