The Sealer of Weights and Measures ensures fair pricing and accurate deliveries, safeguarding both the residents and visitors of Hamilton. In accordance with Massachusetts law, all commercially used measuring and weighing devices—including gasoline pumps, home heating oil trucks, scales, and scanners—are tested and certified annually by the Sealer of Weights and Measures.

Each device is inspected once a year, as required by law. If a device passes inspection, it will receive an approval and security seal. If it does not meet standards, the business must cease using the device until it is repaired or replaced.

The Sealer of Weights and Measures also investigates complaints related to pricing, weight discrepancies, and delivery issues, and conducts random inspections to ensure compliance.
