Recycling Information
As of July 01, 2026 The Town’s Trash Contractor (Casella) will be using a fully automated system for all the recyclables. There will be a change to the Town’s curbside recycling. Each household will receive a 96 gallon recycle tote, this will be in place of all other recycling receptacles in your home. If the 96 gallon bin is too large for your household, you may request a 64 gallon tote in its place. DISPOSAL OPPORTUNITY FOR OLD RECYCLING BARRELS
& RECYCLING PROGRAM UPDATE
To Hamilton Residents,
With the commencement of the new recycling barrel program, residents may be interested in disposing of their old recycling barrels.
Starting June 15th through June 29th, there will be dumpsters available at the gravel lot, south of the Patton Homestead, located at 650 Asbury Street, Hamilton, MA 01982. The town respectfully asks residents to only dispose of empty barrels. No trash, yard debris, or recycling will be permitted.
The town is also working on a form for additional barrel requests which will be available on the town website soon. Residents will be required to purchase additional barrels from the Department of Public Works.
Single Stream Recycling Program
Hamilton uses a Single Stream recycling system, also known as “No Sort” recycling, which allows residents to combine all recyclable materials into a single container for easy collection.
Here’s how it works:
- What You Can Recycle: Combine mixed paper (newspapers, magazines, cardboard, junk mail), glass, aluminum and tin cans, and plastics labeled #1–#7 in the same container.
- Containers: A 96 or 64 gallon container will be provided for you.
- Important Guidelines:
- Recyclables should not be placed in plastic bags.
- Bring your recycling container to the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day.
Tips on Proper Recycling
What you put in the recycling bin matters. Items like food, liquids, and plastic bags can contaminate entire loads of recyclables, making them unusable. Additionally, materials such as plastic bags, clothing, ropes, and hoses can get tangled in sorting machines, causing costly delays and damage.
Recycling is one of the key ways our community helps reduce waste management costs. Casella, our waste hauler, sells the town’s recycled materials on the global market. These sales offset the expense of burning trash. The more we recycle—and the more we compost—the lower our town’s trash hauling costs will be. By recycling correctly, we help save money and support a cleaner environment.
