With high temperatures expected through Tuesday evening 6/24, the Hamilton Fire Department is urging residents to take proactive steps to stay safe during this anticipated heat event. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for much of Massachusetts, including our area, with heat index values expected to reach the mid-90s to 100 degrees.
As temperatures rise, residents are reminded that cooling stations are available in town for anyone seeking relief from the heat. A cooling station is a public, air-conditioned indoor space where individuals can go during a heat wave to avoid prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures. These locations are particularly helpful for older adults, young children, and those with underlying health conditions.
The Hamilton Fire Department has identified the following cooling locations:
Hamilton Council on Aging
299 Bay Road
8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
Hamilton-Wenham Public Library
14 Union Street
9:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a heat-related medical issue, please call 911. Questions on cooling station locations or questions, please contact the Hamilton Dispatch Center at (978) 468-5514 for assistance.
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is emphasizing heat safety.
