Several resources are available for Hamilton homeowners looking to pursue critical home rehabilitation projects, including energy efficiency upgrades, in the form of low interest loans, free-of-charge assessments and expertise, volunteer labor, and grants. Below is information about three programs available to eligible Hamilton residents, including Mass Save, Essex County Critical Home Repair, and the Mass Housing Home Improvement Loan Program.

Mass Save Initiative

Mass Save is a collaborative of Massachusetts’ electric and natural gas utilities and energy efficiency service providers including Berkshire Gas, Cape Light Compact, Eversource, Liberty, National Grid, and Unitil. Mass Save empowers residents, businesses, and communities to make energy efficient upgrades by offering a wide range of services, rebates, incentives, trainings, and information.

Critical Home Repair Program through Essex County Habitat for Humanity

Essex County Habitat for Humanity’s Critical Home Repair Program uses volunteers, donated products, and flexible sources of funding to make repairs affordable, helping low-income homeowners continue to live independently and securely in their homes. The program primarily serves, but is not limited to, elderly and/or disabled homeowners, and completes repairs to maintain the sound condition of the home, weatherization, and energy efficiency as well as those necessary to alleviate critical health, life, and safety issues or code violations.

Mass Housing Home Improvement Loan Program

MassHousing’s Home Improvement Loan Program provides affordable, fixed-rate loans to help homeowners improve and maintain their homes. Eligible improvements include, but are not limited to, enhancing basic living conditions; safety or energy efficiency; adding, altering renovating, or repairing a home; making a dwelling fully accessible for persons with physical disabilities; and bringing a home up to standard state or local building codes.
