The Hamilton Police Department typically conducts a Citizens Police Academy every fall. The academy runs on a weekday night from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm for ten consecutive weeks. The Fall 2021 class start date has been postponed until MARCH 2022.

 

The Citizen Police Academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operation and functions of the Hamilton Police Department, Communications Center and Fire Department. Classes cover various topics such as: Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Evidence collection, Domestic Violence, Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Court Procedures, and Use of Force. Additionally participants complete a 2 hour police ride along and a tour of the Middleton jail. The ride along will allow each student to observe Police Officers while on patrol. Courses will be taught by Hamilton Police Officers, Police Supervisors, Hamilton Fire Fighters and Emergency Dispatchers.

 

There is no charge to attend, however, you must be 18 years or older. The class is limited to 20 applicants. Preference is  given to Hamilton residents.
